Hyundai Motor Group is recruiting a global leader to strengthen its technological leadership based on the convergence of AI and robotics and to spearhead a shift in the industrial paradigm.
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 16th that it has appointed Milan Kovac, a world-renowned expert in AI, robotics, and autonomous driving, as an advisor to the Group and plans to name him as an outside director of Boston Dynamics.
Milan Kovac is a global technology leader who has worked for about 20 years in software, hardware, and AI-based robotic systems, growing engineering organizations that deliver high performance while maintaining rapid development cycles.
Until recently at Tesla, he led the development of humanoid robots, including “Optimus,” and camera-based, vision-centric autonomous driving systems across several projects, and is regarded as having had a significant impact on the related industries as a whole.
With this recruitment, Hyundai Motor Group plans to accelerate AI-based robotics innovation at Boston Dynamics and to speed up mid- to long-term strategies and commercialization of its innovative robot product lineup, including Spot, Stretch, and Atlas.
Milan Kovac will also provide AI and engineering strategy advisory services to Hyundai Motor Group and plans to explore the applicability of advanced AI and robotics technologies by leveraging the Group’s industrial base across various industrial ecosystems, including manufacturing, logistics, and services.
Milan Kovac said, “Boston Dynamics is a core company in the robotics ecosystem and a symbolic enterprise that has inspired countless engineers,” adding, “Combined with Hyundai Motor Group’s strong industrial base, it possesses a unique competitive edge to lead the robotics field, and I look forward to this journey of innovation.”
