Korea Polytechnics Ulsan Campus announced on the 18th that it will conduct international joint research in the field of physical artificial intelligence (AI) together with Purdue University in the United States and local small and medium-sized enterprise Modern Co., Ltd.

The university held a roundtable on the 16th in the main building’s conference room with officials from Purdue University and local SMEs in attendance to explore mid- to long-term joint research directions between domestic and overseas universities and industry. The joint research aims to develop physical AI-based manufacturing and robotics technologies in the shipbuilding and energy industries and to establish technology application models focused on on-site demonstration.

With Purdue University, which has world-class research capabilities, Korea Polytechnics, which holds proven technologies in industrial settings, and Modern Co., Ltd., which supplies gas energy to shipbuilding companies, all participating, tangible research outcomes linking theory and practice are now anticipated.

A university official stated, “Starting with international joint research, we plan to gradually build a cooperative framework that will lead to personnel exchanges and technology transfer,” adding, “We intend to establish a vocational education system for training on-site physical AI professionals as requested by the local industrial sector.”
