The high level of completeness achieved in the “wolf creature” depicted in the KBS drama “The Night the Wolf Disappeared” is drawing attention from viewers and the industry. This project was carried out through collaboration between the KBS Post-Production Technology Bureau and VFX studio Studio BELUCA (CEO Lee Hyun-dong). It is characterized by implementing a highly challenging animal creature using a hybrid method that integrates VFX and AI solutions.
In the drama, the wolf creature is a core element that determines the tension and emotional trajectory of the narrative and is placed in the scenes that attract the most viewer attention. BELUCA organically integrated an AI-based production method into its existing VFX pipeline to meticulously realize the creature’s subtle facial expressions and natural movements. This is assessed as having secured a realistic visual finish while presenting an efficient model that reduces the burden of the production process.
The most notable feature of this project is that AI was not used merely as an auxiliary tool in the post-correction stage, but was deployed from pre-production and shooting to design the production structure. By systematically organizing camera angles and movements, lighting conditions, movements, references, and shooting data obtained on set, the team clearly defined the standards for post-production work, thereby stably enhancing the consistency and completeness of all creature shots.

Studio BELUCA is a VFX production company specializing in films, dramas, and OTT content, established by Studio LENNON Co., Ltd., a comprehensive video production company based on CG and VFX technology. Studio BELUCA supervisors Lee Hyun-dong and Seo Doo-hyung emphasized that “when combining VFX and AI, what matters is not a post-production perspective, but the operational capability to predict and control results from the shooting set,” adding, “On-set judgment regarding cameras, lighting, and movement, as well as securing references and managing data, determine the quality of the final compositing.”
This means that a supervisor-centered on-site response system minimized production risks and improved the reliability of the results.
The collaboration also incorporated AI production expertise from Studio BELUCA’s parent company, Studio LENNON. Studio LENNON set up a dedicated AI team last year and has been fully introducing AI into advertising production solutions. It is currently expanding the scope of AI utilization from the storyboard stage through post-production, based on its proprietary tools.
Studio BELUCA plans to extend this production method that fuses VFX and AI across dramas, films, and OTT content. The company aims to establish AI not merely as a support tool but as a “production methodology,” and to strengthen the construction of a practical pipeline that organically connects on-set shooting and post-production work.
In addition, for the KBS epic historical drama “Munmu,” scheduled to air next year, the KBS Post-Production Technology Bureau and BELUCA plan to further expand production technologies that combine AI and VFX. BELUCA previously received positive reviews for demonstrating large-scale VFX capabilities in the Battle of Gwiju scenes in the KBS epic historical drama “Koryo–Khitan War,” in collaboration with the KBS Post-Production Technology Bureau.
