Dongsung I-Tech is advancing AI digital innovation in public services in collaboration with the Smart City Association and Motov. The three organizations have formalized a future-oriented strategy to address urban parking issues through digital transformation and AI technology via a tripartite business agreement.
Until now, street parking lots have been a typical example of analog operations, but Dongsung I-Tech's SaaS platform 'Flexible Parking' applies spatial digital technology to separate service data (entry, exit, settlement) and make it available on map-based services such as navigation. This is implemented through a digital operation method that does not require the installation of CCTV, settlement devices, or personnel.
Motov's urban data collection devices are installed on various mobility options such as taxis and delivery riders to analyze environmental information and parking situations in real-time, automatically linking with the cloud-based 'Flexible Parking' integrated system. This is transforming the analog operational structure of street parking lots into a standard for digital operations.
The digitalization project of 'Flexible Parking' is noteworthy for its 'One Source & Multi App' structure, where information from a single parking lot is simultaneously provided to multiple applications within the city. Dongsung I-Tech's platform aggregates real-time parking information, including location, available spaces, fees, and congestion, and integrates it in API form with major navigation apps such as T Map, Kakao Navi, and Naver Map.
Citizens can receive guidance on the nearest available parking spaces, fees, and environmental information through navigation while driving, without needing a separate parking app. This is expected to reduce vehicle wandering in the city and prevent illegal parking. This data-sharing structure can be expanded into an integrated solution that connects with urban safety networks and environmental data, achieving crime prevention, emergency response, and carbon reduction.
The Flexible Parking pilot project in Daegu Metropolitan City is being promoted as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's standard informatization project, the 'Land and Transport Data Cooperation Task'. While existing street parking lots incurred high costs for personnel and hardware management, the introduction of a SaaS-based digital parking management system is expected to reduce expenditures and increase budget efficiency.
Simultaneously, demand-based flexible operations utilizing AI technology are anticipated to increase parking turnover and utilization rates, leading to direct revenue improvement through increased tax revenue. The saved budget will be reinvested in additional public services such as enhancing urban safety, environmental maintenance, and citizen convenience, leading to the realization of a smart city strategy focused on citizen services based on digital technology rather than infrastructure.
Additionally, the 'Flexible Parking' pilot project is gaining attention as a case contributing to the national greenhouse gas reduction target (NDC). By providing real-time entry, exit, and settlement information, unnecessary vehicle wandering in the city is reduced, and Daegu is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,565 tons. This is evaluated as the first domestic achievement of directly contributing to the NDC target through parking lot digitalization.
Digitalized parking lots improve the utilization of roads and idle spaces in the city, reduce illegal parking and traffic congestion, and enhance mobility convenience. The effect is expected to be particularly significant in transportation transfer areas with surging parking demand, such as Daegu Airport and Dongdaegu and Seodaegu Stations. The transition from a personnel-centered existing parking management system to a SaaS-based digital infrastructure also results in environmental benefits from reduced hardware production and management and decreased personnel dependency.
Daegu City stated, "Through this Flexible Parking project, we will reorganize outdated street parking lots based on AI data and concretize a smart city strategy that implements the urban management philosophy of eco-friendliness, low carbon, and high efficiency."
