Samsung Electronics unveiled the 'Galaxy Z Tri-Fold', which applies a new smartphone form factor that folds twice, on the 2nd. After China's Huawei introduced the world's first three-fold foldable smartphone, the 'Mate XT', last year and faced durability controversies, Samsung Electronics has released a new product with durability and performance as its strengths after about a year. Samsung Electronics introduced the Tri-Fold, stating it embodies "craftsmanship."

● Incorporating the Advantages of Both Tablets and Smartphones

The Tri-Fold was previewed before its release at Samsung Gangnam in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the 2nd. The Tri-Fold is structured by connecting three displays. When folded, it is the same 6.5 inches (164.8mm) as the existing foldable phone, the 'Galaxy Z Fold7', but it expands to 10 inches (253mm) when unfolded. By sequentially opening the right screen (the side with the camera lens) and the left screen of the folded phone, a 10-inch internal display appears. The display area is as large as a tablet, with the Galaxy Tab S10 Fan Edition's display being 10.9 inches. Kang Min-seok, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' MX Division Smartphone PP Team, stated, "Tablets do not fit in pockets, but the Tri-Fold is a large screen that consumers can take anywhere."

The Tri-Fold weighs 309g, which is not significantly heavier compared to the Fold7 (215g). When unfolded, the panel thickness is 3.9mm, and when all screens are folded into a 'bar' form, the thickness is 12.9mm. It was tried to fit into a jeans pocket when folded into a bar form. The thickness of 8.9mm when folded, compared to the Fold7, was not significantly inconvenient.

The Tri-Fold is designed with an 'in-folding' structure that folds both sides of the screen inward to protect the main display. The principle is to fold the left screen first and then the right screen. When the right screen was deliberately folded first, the smartphone alerted with a screen notification and vibration that it was folded incorrectly.

● Maximized Multitasking Capability

The Tri-Fold is designed to maximize multitasking and generative artificial intelligence (AI) functions. It features a multi-window function that allows up to three apps to be displayed side by side when unfolded, and a taskbar at the bottom provides a PC-level work environment. It was possible to watch a YouTube video, read an article, and send messages simultaneously. By opening an English website, Samsung's automatic translation function allowed viewing the original text on the left and the translated Korean content on the right.

The Tri-Fold is powered by the 'Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy'. It is equipped with a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera. It features the largest 5600mAh battery capacity among the Galaxy foldable series. It also supports up to 45W super-fast charging. It passed the 'multi-folding test' of 200,000 folds. This means it can withstand being folded and unfolded 100 times a day for about five years.

The domestic release date is the 12th of this month, and the price is KRW 3,590,400. Lim Seong-taek, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Korea, stated, "Once used, the differences from other companies' products will be distinctly visible."
