“AI technology is spreading in the livestock sector, and I hope more young people will take an interest.”

Jeon Gwang-myeong, CEO of livestock startup Intflow Co., Ltd., stated in an interview with Dong-A Ilbo on the 21st. CEO Jeon is an AI and mobility expert who obtained his master's and doctoral degrees in computer engineering from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology. While handling data in the laboratory, he was seeking to apply AI technology to field industries when he met livestock farmers in 2019 through an introduction by a friend of his wife. After learning that they were facing significant challenges with livestock diseases, mortality, and management of slaughter and breeding, he began to contemplate ways to integrate AI technology into livestock farming.

CEO Jeon focused on pig farming, stating, “It is a field where the barrier to data utilization is low, and technology can directly lead to problem-solving.” The developed solution, the pig farming automation system 'Edge Farm,' monitors the number of pigs, feed intake, and activity 24 hours a day using cameras and AI computers installed in pig farms. Based on this data, it checks for diseases and breeding conditions in real-time. Edge Farm has improved accuracy by learning and inferring from over 1 million hours of pig video data. Initially, farm owners were reluctant to allow outsiders and install machines due to concerns about infections, but they gradually began to adopt CEO Jeon's program after seeing reduced costs and increased production.

Currently, Edge Farm is being operated not only in domestic farms but also in 83 farms across 10 countries, including the United States and France. It received an Innovation Award at CES 2024. CEO Jeon stated, “We plan to expand AI solutions to poultry farming in the future.”
