“Outra vez, outra vez. (Here we go again, here we go again.)”
In the Korean drama 'Salon de Holmes' aired in Brazil, the protagonist speaks fluent Portuguese. It feels distinctly different from the usual local dubbing. The Korean actor's voice and emotions are preserved as if the actor learned to speak Portuguese. The secret is artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The voice was created using the AI dubbing engine VOIX by AI media technology company AnAI. AI extracts audio from the original drama video, converts it to text, and then applies a natural translation and voice regeneration process to overlay a new language onto the video. Typically, dubbing a series of ten 60-minute episodes takes more than two months, but with AI, the work can be completed in about ten days. Kim Young, CEO of AnAI, stated, “The reduction in localization costs allows us to tap into more diverse markets, and it lowers the entry barriers for small production companies to go global, enabling more diverse K-content to be showcased overseas.”
The advancement of AI is completely transforming the paradigm of the content and knowledge information industry. AI is being integrated into the entire process from planning and production to editing and distribution, leading to structural innovation across the industry.
In this process, startups leading changes in the content industry with AI technology are emerging prominently. A representative example is AnAI, which provides foreign language dubbing solutions using AI. Major domestic MCNs (multi-channel networks) such as KT ENA, JTBC, Sandbox, and Treasure Hunter have already partnered with AnAI.
Content solution startups A.PEN and VAXPORT are also attracting attention. A.PEN operates the ultra-short novel platform 'One Minute Go,' which can be read in one minute per piece. AI automatically creates short-form videos from user-uploaded text content. VAXPORT is a startup specializing in AI interaction media art. It has gained attention with experiential content that revives historical figures as AI digital humans. By combining AI voice synthesis, metahuman modeling, and emotion expression technology, it implements a human-like interface capable of real-time conversation.
There are also knowledge information platforms that use AI to resolve information imbalances. Leisure sports platform company LeisureD is a representative example. It connects instructors, sports equipment brands, and users within one platform using AI. Users can easily find lessons and equipment that match their skills and preferences through AI recommendations. Ko So-yeon, CEO of LeisureD, stated, “Our goal is to make it easy for anyone to enjoy the sport they want in the fitness field, where information asymmetry is severe.”
Experts predict that continuous innovation will continue in terms of production efficiency and diversification of intellectual property (IP) utilization. Cheon Ji-hwan, Secretary-General of the Yoon Min-chang Foundation, stated, “The content industry is undergoing faster changes than ever before in the face of the massive wave of AI transformation,” and “Companies that automate production, expand existing content in various ways, and streamline the entire process from planning to distribution will be in the spotlight.”
