HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on the 30th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation for shipyard modernization to revive the U.S. shipbuilding industry with U.S. company Fraser Industries, and will transfer its know-how in shipyard construction and operation in the United States.

Under the MOU, the two companies agreed to cooperate across the entire process of shipyard construction and operation, including shipyard diagnosis and yard/plant layout design, introduction of robotic automation facilities, optimization of processes and productivity, application of artificial intelligence (AI) and data-based digital solutions, and training of technical personnel. In particular, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering plans to provide in a package the elements needed to realize a smart shipyard, such as shipyard design and production and operation systems.

An HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering representative stated, “By transferring shipyard-related know-how, we will enable the Fraser shipyard to become a key base for the reconstruction of the U.S. shipbuilding industry,” adding, “We will continue to expand the scope of cooperation into various areas going forward.”
