On the 24th (local time), President Lee Jae-myung declared, “Building on our world-class competitiveness and production capacity in memory semiconductors, Korea will become a reliable production base and supply chain partner for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors.”

Attending the AI Summit held in San Francisco, President Lee announced the “San Francisco AI Declaration,” a vision for global AI cooperation, stating, “We will ensure that companies around the world can build AI infrastructure stably under any circumstances and continue technological innovation.” The event was attended by Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun, and Nvidia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang, among others.

President Lee said, “How can we build not an AI that belongs only to certain countries, but a vast global AI market in which all countries participate? How can we ensure that AI development proceeds on the basis of human-centered values and that its benefits are distributed evenly to everyone?” He added, “This is not a problem that can be solved by intense competition alone. It is a challenge of our time that must be addressed together through global cooperation that connects our respective strengths, even as we lead in technology.”

Stating that “the Republic of Korea will leap forward as a key country in the irreplaceable global AI supply chain,” President Lee also underscored the importance of investment. “In June, a KRW 4,700 trillion AI project investment was announced to drive a new leap forward for the Korean economy and the global AI industry,” he said. “Right here today, representatives of Korea’s and the world’s leading companies, with a combined corporate value exceeding KRW 2 quintillion, are ready to unveil to the world a large-scale AI investment initiative that has been prepared over a long period of shared commitment.” He continued, “Choose the Republic of Korea as the stage for innovation and investment where your technologies and ideas can be realized in reality most quickly,” adding, “The Korean people and Korean companies will be your most reliable partners.”

He also highlighted the “AI for All” project. “We will actively deploy AI not only in people’s daily lives but across all public services, including administration, welfare, and education, to build the world’s most dynamic AI market,” he said. “This will constitute a new demand base that drives the growth not only of Korea but of the entire global AI ecosystem.”

In his closing remarks, President Lee stated, “Just as San Francisco’s symbol, the Golden Gate Bridge, spans the sea to connect the city and the world, opening the way to economic prosperity, I ask all of you who are leading the global AI industry to become a bridge of cooperation that connects the world.” He added, “Join the Republic of Korea in building the bold future of the AI era you envision. Korea pledges to be your most reliable partner.”

Quoting the lyrics from the theme song of the U.S. sitcom “Friends” — “I’ll be there for you, ’cause you’re there for me too” — President Lee said, “When we work together, AI can bring hope to more people and create a bigger and brighter future,” adding, “I ask you to join in shaping the future of AI for all of us.”
