The home service robot market is evolving beyond simple household assistance or physical convenience functions into “AI communication” that alleviates users’ loneliness and enables emotional interaction.
Care robot specialist RoboCare Co., Ltd. announced that on July 1 it will officially launch “Chemifriends,” a premium home companion robot equipped with advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-based communication capabilities. Under the slogan “Adding chemistry to life,” Chemifriends is positioned as a life care platform that supports emotional stability and a healthy daily life for active seniors.
The most distinctive feature of Chemifriends is its unrivaled “AI interaction” capability. Unlike existing robots that were limited to recognizing one-off commands, Chemifriends uses advanced AI to remember past conversations with the user and understand the context. On this basis, it goes beyond simple responses to enable deep emotional engagement and ongoing conversation with senior users.
It is also equipped with language communication functions to satisfy intellectual enjoyment in everyday life. Supporting conversational capability in a total of five languages including Korean, it provides an environment where seniors can comfortably practice and study speaking foreign languages at home at any time. In consideration of older adults unfamiliar with device operation, all interaction and control are possible solely through “voice commands” without complex button operations, and the robot autonomously follows the user around the home, fulfilling its role as a companion.
In addition to its role as an emotional companion, its safety management functions for residential environments are organically integrated. With advanced vision AI, it automatically detects incidents such as user falls and immediately sends an emergency alert to caregivers. Caregivers can conduct remote monitoring via a dedicated app, and all communication and video data are encrypted and handled securely to protect privacy.
The product has been recognized for its friendly yet sophisticated design by winning the prestigious iF Design Award and has completed verification of communication and driving usability in residential spaces through a demonstration project with Samsung C&T Corporation.
The product will be available for purchase from July 1 through RoboCare’s official website. Users can experience the robot’s conversational functions firsthand at four offline experience zones set up at Hyundai Department Store (Pangyo), Shinsegae Department Store (Hanam and Gangnam), and Electro Mart (Yeongdeungpo). Upon purchase, a customized service is provided in which professional engineers visit the customer’s home to assist with initial setup.
Jang Kwang-soo, CEO of RoboCare Co., Ltd., stated, “Chemi is not a robot that replaces people, but a robot that emotionally connects people to people through AI technology,” adding, “We will develop it into a new AI life care platform that offers independent, non-lonely daily lives for seniors and peace of mind for their children.”
