On the 5th (local time), Boston Dynamics, the robotics affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, released a video showing a development model of its humanoid robot “Atlas” performing gymnastics.

On this day, Boston Dynamics posted a short-form video titled “Atlas Balancing Act” on its official YouTube channel. Atlas is divided into a development model, which will be deployed in actual manufacturing sites, and a research model for testing core functions. This is the first time that the operation of the development model has been disclosed. The model demonstrated at CES 2026, the world’s largest information technology (IT) and home appliance exhibition, in January this year was also the research model.


In the video, the Atlas development model assumes a handstand on the spot, then supports its entire body with both hands while keeping its body nearly horizontal. It also demonstrates a high-difficulty gymnastics movement in which the body forms an “L” shape. It then flips its body upward and stands upright in a normal posture. Comments on the video included reactions such as “Terrifyingly impressive” and “It looks like Atlas is ready to compete in the Olympics this year.”

The video is seen as emphasizing that once deployed in real-world settings, Atlas can work even from non-standard, irregular postures. Hyundai Motor Group plans to deploy the Atlas development model at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) starting in 2028.
