NC AI announced on the 11th that it has formed the “K Physical AI Alliance” consortium for the “World Foundation Model Technology Development for Physical AI Model Training” project, overseen by the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).

The consortium, which involves a total of 53 institutions, aims to develop a “World Foundation Model (WFM)” and a “Robotics Foundation Model (RFM)” that enable robots to understand and act in the real world. Centered on NC AI’s world model, the consortium combines RLWRLD’s and CMES’s robotics foundation models, FunctionBay’s simulation technology, Rainbow Robotics’ robotics engineering technology, and Samsung SDS’s on-site infrastructure. Through this, it plans to train AI models and simulators on the vast amount of data generated at domestic manufacturing sites to build the “brains” of skilled robots.

NC AI plans to leverage its reinforcement learning expertise gained from training AI through interactions with millions of users in massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) environments. Research teams from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Seoul National University, Korea University, and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) will also participate in the consortium, taking charge of advancing simulation technology through research and development.

NC AI cited as a key strength of the “K Physical AI Alliance” its securing of more than 40 demand institutions, including major domestic conglomerates, technology companies, and local governments. Local governments in four major regions nationwide—Jeonbuk, Gyeongnam, Gwangju, and Daegu—have also agreed to participate as demand institutions.
