Kakao Healthcare announced on the 3rd that it has introduced an “obesity patient support service” to its AI-based mobile health management solution “PASTA” app in cooperation with Novo Nordisk Pharma Korea.
This new service targets patients prescribed obesity treatments and aims to establish a full-cycle weight management environment that encompasses everything from providing medication information to managing lifestyle habits.
The collaboration was pursued to combine Novo Nordisk’s expertise in obesity treatment with Kakao Healthcare’s digital healthcare technology so that patients with obesity can receive safer and more systematic management. The service is provided through the PASTA app and supports a patient-led, sustainable health management experience.
The newly introduced obesity patient support service in the PASTA app provides essential medication information such as injection methods, storage methods, and dose-escalation schedules for obesity drugs, and helps improve treatment adherence through a dosing reminder function.
Patients can also intuitively check changes in their weight and muscle mass, while the app uses AI technology to comprehensively analyze patterns in weight, diet, exercise, sleep, and stress to propose personalized routines. This helps reduce risk factors that may arise during the treatment process and supports stable treatment continuity.
Healthcare professionals can use “PASTA Connect PRO” to view in real time not only the weight changes recorded by patients but also key lifelog data such as exercise and eating habits. Based on this, they can provide more effective medical care and consultation that comprehensively take into account patients’ lifestyle habits and treatment responses.
Meanwhile, since signing a business agreement in 2023, the two companies have continued to collaborate in the areas of blood glucose and obesity management. They are currently providing a medication management solution for diabetes patients by linking Novo Nordisk’s “Mallya” smart cap for the insulin FlexTouch pen with the PASTA app, and plan to further expand cooperation to build a long-term digital healthcare environment that enables patients to manage their own health.
Casper Rossing Poulsen, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pharma Korea, said, “Obesity is a chronic disease that requires long-term follow-up and concurrent lifestyle modification,” adding, “We hope that the obesity patient support service via the PASTA app will provide patients with a more integrated treatment experience and contribute to improving a sustainable management environment.”
Hwang Hee, CEO of Kakao Healthcare, said, “This collaboration is significant in that it has created an environment where patients can easily access clinically validated medication information and manage their own health based on data,” and added, “Kakao Healthcare will continue to expand a patient-centered digital healthcare ecosystem going forward.”
