South Korea has laid the groundwork for participating in Türkiye's Sinop nuclear power plant project.
The Presidential Office announced on the 24th that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on nuclear cooperation was included in the agreements signed during the Korea-Türkiye summit. The nuclear cooperation MOU on this day set the scope of cooperation to include reactor technology, site evaluation, regulation and licensing, finance and business models, and nuclear power plant project implementation.
In particular, to this end, a joint working group will be formed to share information, experience, know-how, and knowledge, and to promote mutual visits of experts.

The Presidential Office assessed that as a result of this MOU, South Korea has secured a foundation to participate from the early stages, such as site evaluation, in Türkiye's Sinop Phase 2 nuclear power plant project, and has laid the groundwork for future project bids. The Sinop nuclear power plant in Türkiye is a large-scale nuclear power plant planned to be built in the Sinop region along the Black Sea coast, with Korea Electric Power Corporation having submitted a preliminary bid in 2023 to formalize participation.
Additionally, the Turkish General Directorate of Highways, Korea Expressway Corporation, and Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) have signed an MOU on cooperation in the road infrastructure sector. This MOU includes strengthening cooperation to jointly discover, promote, and develop public-private partnership (PPP) road projects in Türkiye, Korea, and third countries.

The Presidential Office anticipates that the participation of domestic companies in large-scale road PPP projects ordered by the Turkish General Directorate of Highways will be promoted. It is also expected that by utilizing the accumulated PPP road project experience of both countries and Türkiye's network as a gateway to Europe, they will be able to jointly enter road PPP projects being pursued in third countries such as the Middle East and Eurasia.
Furthermore, the two countries have also signed an MOU on veterans' cooperation. The governments of both countries have agreed to promote respect for Turkish veterans who participated in the Korean War, as well as exchanges between veterans' organizations and their descendants.
