Domestic cosmetics contract manufacturer Saimdang Cosmetics Manufacturing announced on the 30th that it has obtained Indonesian halal certification for 16 cosmetic items produced on its own production lines.

The certification initiative was undertaken as a preemptive response to Indonesia’s mandatory halal labeling system for cosmetics, which the government will implement from 17 October. When the Halal Product Assurance Law was enforced in 2021, Indonesia granted a five-year grace period to the cosmetics sector, which will end this October. Accordingly, after the grace period expires, local distribution of non–halal-certified cosmetics is expected to be strictly restricted.

According to a survey by the Korea International Trade Association, 50.6% of consumers in five major Islamic countries cited the presence of halal certification as their top criterion when purchasing products, underscoring that halal certification is regarded as a key factor for entry into local markets.

The products for which Saimdang Cosmetics Manufacturing obtained halal certification this time total 16 items, including “LISIL Hyaltenol” containing hyaluronic acid, “LISIL Snow Niacin” containing niacinamide, the trouble-care line “LISIL AC-Tea Tree,” and the premium line “Daim Red Ginseng Gold Nourishing” containing red ginseng. All major skincare categories, including toner, serum, cream, and cleanser, are covered.

Leveraging this certification, Saimdang Cosmetics Manufacturing has aligned the operating standards of production facilities at its Ochang plant with halal requirements. Through this, the company has established an integrated one-stop support system covering raw material suitability review, manufacturing on halal-verified production lines, certification applications, and documentation responses.

A Saimdang Cosmetics Manufacturing official stated, “Based on this halal certification, the company plans to further strengthen its OEM and ODM business targeting Islamic markets, including Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.”
