On the 11th, Seoul National University (SNU) announced that Professor Lee Jae-sung of SNU College of Medicine and the Interdisciplinary Program for Advanced Convergence has been selected as the recipient of the “2026 Edward J. Hoffman Memorial Award” by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) in the United States.

According to SNU, Professor Lee has been conducting research on methods to overcome the limitations of nuclear medicine imaging analysis by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. He developed and commercialized the first domestically produced positron emission tomography (PET) system, which is used for cancer diagnosis and to determine the presence of metastasis, and has worked to improve the performance of medical equipment, including the development of high-resolution PET. Professor Lee stated in his acceptance remarks, “I will contribute to the development of medical imaging technologies that enable more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment.”

SNU explained that Professor Lee is the first researcher from Asia to receive the Hoffman Memorial Award. The award was established to honor Edward Hoffman, a pioneer in the field of modern nuclear medicine imaging equipment.
