POSCO DX is shifting to a system in which artificial intelligence (AI) handles everything from operation of manufacturing equipment on the shop floor to office tasks. The strategy is to transform into an “AI-native company” where AI becomes the principal agent of work, by applying physical AI to manufacturing sites and agentic AI to office operations.

POSCO DX announced this business strategy at a press briefing held on the 29th at Lotte Hotel Seoul in Jung District, Seoul. To this end, the company has begun applying related technologies first to manufacturing and office sites within the POSCO Group to verify their effectiveness. Choi Tae-hwan, Head of Corporate Planning at POSCO DX, said, “Building on our capabilities that span from on-site equipment to management systems, we will leap forward as the company that best implements physical AI and agentic AI services.”

At POSCO’s steel mills recently, work is in full swing to incorporate AI into large-scale equipment that was previously operated directly by humans. This includes large cranes that transport steel products, reclaimers that move stacked raw materials, and ship unloaders that transfer raw materials from vessels. AI analyzes in real time the data coming from the field—such as equipment temperature, vibration, and surrounding video—to determine how to operate the equipment. Yoon Seok-jun, Head of the Robot Automation Center at POSCO DX, said, “An intelligent factory is one where people do what people do well, robots do what robots do well, and AI does what AI does well.”

In office operations, POSCO DX is using its proprietary platform “Agentee.” It first analyzes the workflow to divide tasks between humans and AI. It then uses Agentee to create AI agents for each task, managing the entire lifecycle as if they were employees, including recruitment, evaluation, training, and reassignment. POSCO DX plans to roll out these internally validated AI workers and the platform across the entire Group, and later supply them to external companies as well.
