Daewoong Pharmaceutical is entering the AI endoscopic image analysis software market through a partnership with medical artificial intelligence (AI) company Weisen. The company plans to strengthen its digital healthcare business by adding diagnostic support solutions to its existing gastrointestinal disease portfolio, which centers on gastroesophageal reflux disease treatments and colon cleansers.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced on the 10th that it has signed a sales consignment agreement with Weisen for the AI endoscopic image analysis software “WAYMED ENDO.”

Under this agreement, Daewoong Pharmaceutical will leverage its nationwide hospital sales network to take charge of the sales and marketing of WAYMED ENDO to tertiary general hospitals, general hospitals, health examination centers, and clinics. Weisen will be responsible for product advancement and technical support, facilitating adoption and utilization by medical institutions.

Through this collaboration, Daewoong Pharmaceutical is adding AI-based endoscopic diagnostic support software to its existing gastrointestinal disease product portfolio, which includes the gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment “Fexuclu” and the colon cleanser “Cleancol.” The strategy is to expand its solutions in the gastrointestinal field, covering the entire process from examination preparation and diagnostic support to treatment.

WAYMED ENDO is an AI-based real-time image analysis medical software for upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. It assists medical professionals in identifying lesions that are easily missed by the naked eye during endoscopic examinations, such as those located behind folds or at edges, and small lesions measuring 2–3mm. The AI automatically measures endoscopy quality indicators such as examination time and withdrawal time, enabling its use in examination quality management and improving work efficiency.

A key feature is its compatibility with existing endoscopy equipment. Medical institutions can introduce AI diagnostic support software while reducing the burden of equipment replacement. WAYMED ENDO was designated as the 37th Innovative Medical Device by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in July 2023 and is currently in use at medical institutions in Korea and overseas.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical CEO Chang-jae Lee said, “This collaboration is a starting point for expanding Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s ongoing digital healthcare business into the gastrointestinal disease field,” adding, “Based on our existing gastrointestinal product portfolio and nationwide hospital network, we will work to expand the supply of WAYMED ENDO and support improvements in medical staff’s examination environment and work efficiency.”

Weisen CEO Kyung-nam Kim said, “This agreement with Daewoong Pharmaceutical, which has expertise and sales capabilities in the gastrointestinal disease field, is expected to be an important turning point for the expansion of the domestic AI endoscopy market,” and added, “We will focus on product development and technological advancement so that more medical institutions can utilize AI-based endoscopic diagnostic support software.”
