Medical startup Bitggal Co., Ltd. (CEO Gong Seong-ho) announced that it is set to launch a prototype of an AI-based ultra-high-definition fluorescent laparoscope.

This equipment, aimed at improving laparoscopic surgery images based on fluorescent imaging, was developed by incorporating key technologies from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' TIPS program and government-supported projects conducted recently.

The prototype features a structure where the image processing device and light source are integrated into one unit to reduce installation space in the operating room and enhance user convenience. Additionally, it displays surgical areas in both standard and fluorescent images simultaneously, and assists in clearer identification of anatomical structures through real-time noise reduction and automatic color correction functions.

It also includes a function to identify the parathyroid gland's autofluorescence without fluorescent lighting. Furthermore, it is equipped with high-speed video transmission capabilities to enable integration with AI-based surgical video assistance technology in the future.

CEO Gong Seong-ho stated, “Laparoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive surgical method, is utilized in various fields from surgery to gynecology, urology, and otolaryngology, but equipment development is centered around large global companies. We developed the ultra-high-definition fluorescent laparoscope with domestic technology to more quickly reflect the demands of the medical field.”

After the prototype launch, Bitggal plans to improve the product by incorporating feedback from medical sites and pursue licensing and commercialization.

Meanwhile, Bitggal is a startup founded in 2022 by surgical medical staff from Seoul National University Hospital, with Professor Gong Seong-ho of the Department of Surgery at Seoul National University College of Medicine serving as CEO. CEO Gong is an expert in laparoscopic surgery who underwent extensive training at IRCAD (International Center for the Study of Minimal Invasive Surgery) in Strasbourg, France, and is also active as the president of the Korean Society of Fluorescence Surgery and the secretary-general of the Korean Society of Coloproctology.
