Samsung Display announced on the 26th that it will be the exclusive supplier of four types of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays for Ferrari’s new model, the Ferrari Luce (photo), from the Italian supercar brand.

Ferrari on the 25th (local time) unveiled the Luce, equipped with Samsung Display’s OLED panels, at La Nuvola in Rome, Italy. The electric sports car Luce is fitted with OLEDs in the driver’s front “driver binnacle,” the central control panel, and the rear-seat control panel.

The “binnacle” is a structure that displays speed and driving information. In a traditional binnacle, a needle linked to the powertrain moves mechanically to show information, but the Luce’s binnacle is designed in a form where two OLEDs overlap. The lower-layer panel displays the basic background and scale, while the upper-layer panel shows three circular holes as reference points, along with pop-up messages and warning lights.

Samsung Display emphasized that it achieved the distinctive design thanks to its processing technology called “Big Hole.” The company explained that this technology minimizes signal distortion or delay, enabling uniform and stable image quality. Samsung Display added, “Ferrari wanted the panel to blend naturally with the binnacle,” and continued, “To that end, we processed the OLED into a free form composed of multiple straight and curved lines, enhancing Ferrari’s design freedom.”
