A domestic research team has developed a personalized diagnostic technology that can precisely analyze even minute differences within tumors at the single-cell level and accurately predict therapeutic responses to immuno-oncology drugs.

On the 6th, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced that a research team led by Professor Park Ji-hwan of the Department of Life Sciences had developed an analysis technology that precisely predicts responses to immuno-oncology therapy at the single-cell level. The newly developed technology is significant in that, unlike conventional analysis methods that examine multiple cells at once and look only at average values, it can quantitatively identify differences among individual cells that make up a tumor.

Professor Park said, “This newly developed technology is expected to contribute to establishing personalized treatment strategies for cancer patients and improving the success rate of immuno-oncology therapies.”
