LG Electronics has secured a large-scale contract for cooling solutions for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers in the United States.

Cho Joo-wan, CEO of LG Electronics, announced on his social networking service (SNS) on the 4th that the company recently agreed to supply chillers for a large-scale data center project in the U.S. This marks the first time LG Electronics has won a contract to supply cooling solutions to an AI data center in the U.S. The contract is reported to be worth several hundred billion KRW. The contracting party was not disclosed.

The United States is the world's largest AI data center market. This contract raises expectations for LG Electronics' cooling solutions business. There are also prospects for additional orders from big tech data centers.

As AI advances, servers within data centers consume more power and generate more heat. The importance of technology to cool these servers and prevent overload is increasing.

CEO Cho stated, "The rapid expansion of AI is accelerating the demand for key infrastructure such as data centers and semiconductor equipment," adding, "These areas are essential for AI performance, scalability, and sustainability." He further mentioned, "LG Electronics is capturing new opportunities in two areas: data center cooling solutions and next-generation semiconductor equipment." LG Electronics is also developing semiconductor equipment targeting the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market.
