HD Hyundai Electric will build a second manufacturing plant in the United States. The company announced on the 8th that on the 6th (local time) it held a groundbreaking ceremony for its second plant at “HD Hyundai Power Transformer USA,” its North American production subsidiary located in Montgomery, Alabama.

The second plant is a facility the company is establishing by investing about USD 200 million (approximately KRW 297.0 billion) to increase its extra-high-voltage transformer production capacity by 1.5 times the current level. When the 29,000㎡ (approximately 8,800 pyeong) second plant is completed in April next year, testing and production facilities for 765kV-class extra-high-voltage transformers will be in place. HD Hyundai Electric expects that once the second plant is fully operational, it will generate an additional KRW 200 billion in annual sales.

With North American power demand surging due to big data and artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, HD Hyundai Electric is strengthening its investment in the region.

The company stated, “As a result of continuous investment, the sales of our North American production subsidiary, which were at the level of USD 100 million (approximately KRW 148.5 billion) in 2017, increased to USD 400 million (approximately KRW 594.1 billion) by 2025,” adding, “The number of employees also grew from around 100 in 2011 to about 460 last year.”
