CNN, an American media outlet, has highlighted Hyundai Motor Group's latest production facilities. During a visit to the Hyundai Motor Group's Singapore plant, the Global Innovation Center (HMGICS), CNN introduced the automated production system and flexible manufacturing environment based on robots and artificial intelligence (AI) as a model for future factories.

Hyundai Motor announced on the 19th that CNN recently featured the Hyundai Motor Group's Singapore HMGICS as a futuristic production plant through its Asia-focused program, CNN Marketplace Asia.

At HMGICS, CNN captured footage of Boston Dynamics' quadruped robot dog 'Spot' patrolling the factory, conducting product quality inspections, and performing facility checks. They showed particular interest in Spot following engineers and performing real-time quality inspections. According to Hyundai Motor, Spot follows engineers, capturing tasks with a high likelihood of errors, which are then analyzed by AI algorithms to assess assembly completeness. This system informs engineers of areas needing correction before completing their tasks.

HMGICS is Singapore's first electric vehicle production plant, designed as an automation-focused smart factory. The plant incorporates advanced technologies such as digital twins, AI, and robot collaboration into its process system. Specifically, it features an automated cell-based flexible production system with AI and robotics technology, digital twin-based production operations synchronizing reality and virtuality, data-driven intelligent operation systems, and human-centered manufacturing processes where humans and robots work together. Hyundai Motor explained that the factory is designed to allow people to focus on creative and strategic tasks. Completed in 2023, the plant can produce 30,000 electric vehicles annually, with approximately 70% of the assembly and inspection processes automated. About 200 robots are deployed in the plant for product production. CNN evaluated it as an advanced factory where robots inspect and assist human tasks. The production processes, technology, and manufacturing know-how applied at HMGICS, Hyundai Motor Group's first smart factory with an intelligent production system, are expected to be applied to other factories in the future.

Alpesh Patel, Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) of HMGICS, stated, “The integration of robots and AI enables more flexible and efficient production,” adding, “Such intelligent precision inspection systems are essential for perfect quality.”
